What is a Giclee?
Giclée (pronounced /?i??kle?/ "zhee-clay" or /d?i??kle?, from French [?i?kle]) is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray" It was coined in 1991, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. Beside its association with Iris prints, in the past few years, the word “giclée,” as a fine art term, has come to be associated with prints using fade-resistant archival inks (including solvent inks), archival substrates, and the inkjet printers that use them. These printers use the CMYK color process but may have multiple cartridges for variations of each color based on the CcMmYK color model (e.g. light magenta and light cyan inks in addition to regular magenta and cyan); this increases the apparent resolution and color gamut and allows smoother gradient transitions. A wide variety of substrates are available including various textures and finishes such as matte photo p
aper, watercolor paper, cotton canvas, or artist textured vinyl.
What are the other formats I can get prints in and does the price change from the other formats?
Images can be printed on a variety of substrates, from textiles, fine art papers or even metals. If you have a special request please just let us know. There is a price difference on each of the substrates and we would be happy to prepare a custom quote for you.
Am I allowed to contact the artist direct for custom work?

What kind of guarantee do I have on these prints to know they will last without yellowing over time?
All inks and substrates have been tested by the Wilhelm Imaging Research Institute. The archival ratings are between 75 and 300 years, depending on the substrate. Please note, care must be taken to protect products from direct UV rays and moisture. We recommend framing behind a UV coated glass with acid free mat's and backings to ensure the longest life of your new fine art piece.
What if I receive my print and I find it is too big or small for the area I wanted it to hang, can I return it for the appropriate size?
